"Cathouse: The Series" is an HBO television series that documents the professional lives of the workers at the Moonlite BunnyRanch, a legal brothel in Nevada. The 11 episodes of the first season were originally broadcast in 2005; 6 episodes of the second season aired two years later. The series is the direct successor of the HBO documentariesCathouse (2002) and Cathouse 2: Back in the Saddle (2003), which also focused on the Bunny Ranch. On New Year's Day 2008 at 12:05am, HBO aired a special episode of the series entitled "Cathouse the Musical." Also in 2008, two standalone episodes (not part of a full season) aired - "Cathouse: Come to the Party" and "Best of Cathouse." Unlike the specials, which showed only the negotiations between brothel workers and their clients, the series was more sexually explicit and showed sexual activity with customers. Regulars on the series include Moonlite owner Dennis Hof, his then girlfriend Sunset Thomas (a porn star who was also a Moonlite employee), Air Force Amy, Isabella Soprano, Brooke Taylor (who became Hof's girlfriend after Thomas departed) and Danielle.
A third season, consisting of three episodes, "Menage A Trois," "What's on the Menu?" and "Three Ring Circus," aired in late 2008. A standalone episode entitled "Sex, Guys and Videotape" aired in late 2009, including footage of the Bunny Ranch shot by the working girls themselves.
A fourth season, including episodes "Cat Call" and "Welcome Aboard," featuring a visit from Heidi Fleiss, began airing in 2011. These episodes include the introduction of a new group of women, including Hof's newest girlfriend, Cami Parker, while continuing to feature Brooke Taylor, Bunny Love and Air Force Amy.

In 1999, Lyon County sheriff's deputy Brian Putzer filed a police report accusing Hof of death threats. According to Deputy Putzer, the threats were spurred when Putzer did a routine walk-through check of one of Hof's brothels and discovered documents showing that Hof was setting up sexual encounters in counties where prostitution is illegal. Putzer states that his superiors “didn't want to challenge Hof” as the county is poorly funded and Hof's brothels were a major contributor to the local economy. In 2016 a woman who had formerly worked for Hof, Jennifer O’Kane, publicly accused Hof of nonconsensual sexual contact, rape, sexual harassment, and having sex with his workers without a condom. O'Kane stated that Hof regularly gets away with the sexual abuse of his employees due to their status as sex workers, and that she had reported the rape to the D.A.'s office in 2011 but nothing had been pursued. The accusations were similar to statements made in Hof's own memoir by former Hof employees Krissy Summers and Cami Parker, who noted abusive behavior and coerced sexual encounters in the brothel. A detective interviewed O'Kane regarding the accusations but charges were not pursued as there were no other direct witnesses and Hof was running for political office at the time. Deputy District Attorney Katrina Samuels again declined to prosecute the case in 2018, stating that the statute of limitations had passed. In December 2017 another former employee, Diana Grandmaison, reported a non-consensual sexual encounter with Hof to the same detective who had investigated the O'Kane case. Grandmaison stated that Hof regularly initiated such encounters with the young girls who worked for him and detailed other forms of work abuse. No further action was taken.
